This is far from true, which is why I'm sticking to the original order of things. I was shocked to find that some of the stuff was from my 2nd great-grandmother - evidently it was handed down to my great-grandmother which was then handed down to her son, then to his son, and now to me! I have been given a couple of boxes that had things from multiple generations. There are items that I have no idea who they belonged to because they weren't labeled. So, I don't know if the pin in the hat box belonged to my Aunt or my Great Grandmother etc. What a great project you have to work on!
